I shoot stuff in the streets – people and often derelict buildings – that catches my eye, and portraits. I shoot in colour, but convert many shots to black, white, and shades of grey. I think less is more. I’m much more interested in content and composition – in pictures that have a hint of a story – than I am in technicalities. I understand aperture, but am sometimes baffled by the mechanics of shutter speeds and white balance, and that’s a problem for me. Doubtless I’ll get over it. For the rest, here’s a quotation on which I rely when asked to describe my pictures: ‘I always thought good photos were like good jokes. If you have to explain it, it just isn’t that good’. – Anonymous
