Unite the nation - documentary Photography
Hello, I’m Daz Smith, and I’d like to share my latest documentary photography project, captured at the ‘Unite the Nation’ demonstration held in Central London on Saturday, October 26, 2024. This event was significant, drawing large crowds draped in Union Jacks and filled with patriotic energy, uniting people from diverse backgrounds and communities.
Tens of thousands gathered in a party-like atmosphere outside Parliament, filling the streets with a lively energy that was as much a celebration as it was a demonstration. People of all ages joined together, creating a visual sea of red, white, and blue. The day was punctuated by speeches, music and a showing of Tommy Robinson’s’ s documentary.
My aim was to document not just the scale of the gathering but also the sense of collective identity and belonging that infused the attendees. The ‘Unite the Nation’ demonstration reminds me of photography’s power to document, preserve, and tell stories of the people and movements shaping our world.
